What is a wooden
skate?
What's in a name? Yes, Virginia, there really is a wooden skate! When the antiques business opened in 1973, and a unique identity was needed, the owners named it after one of their antiques that they had never seen duplicated: a wooden scooter-like item, with two wooden blades underneath, apparently for moving across the ice. So "Wooden Skate Antiques" was born.
With the increasing prominence of its jewelry department, the name "Estate Jewelry and Gems" was added. However, it's clear that word-of-mouth favors the original name -- even jewelry customers use the name "Wooden Skate" to refer their family and friends to their favorite jeweler. The actual wooden skate still hangs in the main shop, as unique as the business that bears its name.
